Dragonflies

A couple months ago I decided to change my logo on my website to a dragonfly. I have always felt drawn to them and after reading about what they symbolize, I knew it was the logo I wanted.

Today, Jim and I came home from shopping and there was a box waiting for us. It was a yard sign with...... you guessed it, a dragonfly. He held it up for my to see I I immediately fell in love with it. Jim is not one to give out gifts for just anything but he realized what this would mean to me. And he put thought into it.

We agreed it would go out by our patio somewhere. This is normally where we "Welcome" our friends and it seemed quite appropriate. Everything about this yard sign is perfect. The shape of the dragonfly, the colors, the Welcome sign. I am very excited and will cherish this gift forever.

To share a couple things about dragonflies:

- It is said that dragonflies have flown the earth for 300 million years.

- They are graceful and agile fliers.

- They are large and colorful and easily catch the human eye.

- There are over 5,000 varieties of dragonflies.

- They have three life cycles. Egg, nymph and adult dragonfly.

- The adult dragonfly has an average lifespan of about 6 months.

- A dragonfly can fly at speeds up to 45 mph.

- A dragonfly can fly straight up, backward and side to side

Now for some fun stuff:

- Not only does a dragonfly symbolize change in life, it specifically represents a change in perspective and a shift toward self realization. (pretty powerful stuff!)

- In Native American legends, the dragonfly is a symbol of resurrection, and renewal after hardship. - When a dragonfly appears in front of you it means that she is the bearer of the winds of change.

- The dragonfly reminds us that everything is possible when we reach the understanding that we are part of the universe.
